Ashagi means Blue Heron in Anishinaabemowin. This piece is Alexis Blackbird's own playful & colourful take on the Great Blue Heron, which can be seen by the waters back home in Ontario. A lot of what she creates is inspired by little connections to her culture, family, and just all things that bring her joy!

ARTIST BIO:

"My name is Alexis Blackbird and I am the artist & owner behind Blackbird Beading & Design. I am Anishinaabe (Odawa) and a member of Walpole Island First Nation, ON, but currently living in Saskatoon, SK. I’ve been painting and creating for as long as I can remember! From painting with my grandma as a kid, to teaching myself how to bead, and eventually finding my way into digital art & design. I love connecting with my culture and community through art, and seeing where each new idea takes me! Through my work, I hope people feel a sense of pride, connection, and joy when wearing, sharing, or displaying my art."
